Follow these steps to wash your paintbrushes for the best results:

1. Select the right solvent. No one solvent can be used to remove all types of paint from brushes. You can check the instructions on your paint to see what you should use. Paint thinner or mineral spirit is a good choice for oil-based paints. Shellacs are best cleaned with denatured alcohol, ammonia, or mineral spirits. Paints based on water can be cleaned using soap and warm, lukewarm water.
2. Instead of washing paint in the sink, use a clean container. Can you wash brushes with paint in the sink? It’s not a good idea. Cleaning your brushes down the sink is not recommended. It can cause problems, such as clogging the plumbing, exposure to fumes, and the risk of igniting the liquid. Fill a small, clean container with the solution. • Vinegar can be used to clean paintbrushes. Pour vinegar into a saucepan on the stove and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Soak the brush for 20 minutes in the liquid. Wash the brush with warm, soapy water after the soak. Remove any remaining paint. Pat the paint with a paper towel and let it dry flat.
